Soccer Drills

Why they are NOT as productive as you might think.

When it comes to teaching soccer players technical skills many coaches look to "DRILLS" to improve their players ability.

Think about this for a minute....

A "drill" contains many separate INDIVIDUAL SKILLS. If you are working on a wall pass drill the players are KICKING, PASSING, RECEIVING, MOVING, LOOKING, and DRIBBLING.

EACH ONE OF THESE IS AN INDIVIDUAL SKILL THAT MUST BE REFINED.

Performing "DRILLS" over and over simply programs deeper the "BROKEN" or incorrect skills without fixing them.

The same applies to tactical plays.

The players know what they should do, but when a tactical play breaks down it is due to one of two things.

1) A player performed a technical skill incorrectly.

2) A defensive player used better technical skills to break up the play.

Look at the model below and you will better understand how to make your player and teams MUCH more effective.
