Take
the time to read this page...
From: Coach V
Hi Everyone,
If you're like me, you get tired of reading long pages and TONS
of information. You just want the "facts and info" you need as
quickly as possible. However, I think if you will read the
following it should make a serious impression on you and your
decision.
I get emails all the time from
coaches and parents thanking me for producing this series but I
felt that this one really covered several aspects and view
points.
I asked Ken if I could post it,
and he agreed. Ken and I have never met but he is a great
example of someone using this series and applying it in the
field.
Coach V &
Staff,
The holidays
are past and I am working to put my ducks in a row for the
upcoming spring season. One of the projects I have had in mind
has been to build a kickback wall on campus at the high school
where I coach (Rochester Adams HS, Rochester MI). In looking on
line for ideas and information, I came across your Soccer-Hop.
And now I am thinking that perhaps constructing several of these
would be a better and more versatile option than building a
larger stationary wall on campus.
And
I note also that you offer the plans as a bonus with the
purchase of your Blast The Ball video. Having purchased both the
Blast The Ball DVD as well as the Soccer U program, I was hoping
that I might prevail upon you to forward the plans to me as a
"belated bonus", so to speak.
I also wish to
express to you how much your videos have aided and improved my
coaching. Aside from high school soccer, I also coach youth club
teams. And the nuts and bolts presentation and delivery of your
programs I have taken straight to the field and the results have
been outstanding. By introducing the mechanics of these
skills to 8-9-10 year olds as a matter of course I am able to
lay a much stronger foundation for their future development,
creating proper muscle memory and good habits before bad one's
set in that will need to get undone somewhere down the line. You
know how any given team will have little catch-phrases
particular to them; well "Hop & Load", V-swing through" and
"Ball-Peek-Ball" are a few of the catch phrases you'll hear on
any given day on my training or game fields. It's not uncommon
for a parent or even another coach to approach me as ask "what
does V-swing through mean?"
And when
"recapping" and breaking down these same items with older
players, the invariable feedback is "wow... nobody ever showed
us THIS stuff before." And if the habits of some of my older
kids do need to be broken and changed, I find they are far more
willing to make an honest and conscientious effort to do so when
they see and understand exactly WHY a particular change matters,
and how it will improve their abilities.
At my last
annual review, the technical director of my club commented very
positively on "what a good job you do of showing the ‘hows and
whys’ of the skills you're teaching."
So, Thank YOU
- because so much of my "expertise" has been little more than me
taking your video instruction to my training field. You have
produced outstanding material that any coach would benefit from.
And from a personal library of over 75 videos I have purchased
over the years, I rank yours as one of my Top 5 "go to
essentials". Some vids I look at once and rarely ever again.
Some I haven't viewed in years - and probably won't for years to
come. But BTB, Soccer U, and some others, I go back to over and
over and over again when planning individual sessions or
training arcs to last over several contiguous sessions, or just
to get my mind focused.(Just by way of information, Martin
Bidzinski's First Touch series, Kamal deGregory's AST, Horst
Wein's Game Intelligence series, and Reedswain's German Touch
series are the others in my Top 5). I have recommended your
DVD's to many, many coaches and even parents who have asked for
my opinion on the best soccer videos I know of, and will
continue to do so.
So thanks
again so very much. If you are able to forward the Soccer-Hop
plans to me, I would, as a coach on a budget, consider it a
great kindness and am highly appreciative. But even if not, I
wish you to know the high regard I have for you and the great
value I find in your material and approach to teaching &
coaching this game we love.
All the best.
Coach Ken
