Is there a right way to dribble
the soccer ball?
There 100% is.
One of the huge problems with developing and advancing soccer
players is there lack of BASIC skills. We know, "Hey it
doesn't a genius." right?
Well, if you watch a middle school or even high school soccer
match you will find that a HUGE number of these players have
never been taught proper dribbling skills. Here are some
important points to remember that we cover in detail on SoccerU.
#1 The basic dribble is a "lace
chop" dribble. Our toe points down and we chop at the back
of the ball. This keeps the ball close to use and allows us to
move quickly without KICKING the ball.
#2 We dribble with our strong foot
only, or the foot that is farthest away from the defender who is
putting pressure on us. We must learn to dribble with one foot,
and fast.
#3 When moving in tight spaces,
keep your dribbles small and choppy. Make the ball only move the
amount of one stride. When moving in open space, touch the ball
as few times as we can. BIG open touches and strides.
#4 Learn to shield dribble. Allow
your body to shield the ball and dribble with the inside of your
foot.
When all is said in done, there is
a HUGE amount to learn about proper dribbling.
