My question is on age of teaching a slide tackle. When should I start teaching the slide tackle to my son who is 8 years old?

If the player has been playing for some time and shows the desire to start slide tacking, you better teach them. Otherwise they will do it anyway and get hurt or hurt someone. That is kind of a guide.
Now having said that, many Rec programs do not allow slide tackling. The same with indoor programs.
I have worked with many 10 year olds that are very good now at slide tacking. Keep in mind though, that they are good academy players that don't play like average 10 year olds.
The unfortunate part of this skill is the exposure to girls. I have worked with many college players that don't know how to slide tackle properly. Once shown, they are thrilled.
