Why SoccerU?
A Personal Message from Coach V...
(He is the midget
between Mac, now with the New York Red Bulls,
and Dan now with the Carolina RailHawks.

First I wanted
to say thanks for taking the time to read this message. Most of us
hate to sit and read a bunch of “babble” but I think it is critical
you understand a few important points.
1) There is no
quick fix.
One thing I
can’t stand is bunch of “Marketing Fluff” telling you there is a
“Magic Pill” that will make you and your players superstars. (There
isn’t)
Often parents
send their kids to 5 day soccer summer camps thinking they will
return “superstars” when in fact they return the same as the were,
just with a fun social experience in a soccer environment. (Which is
what most camps are and should be.)
The same
applies to many videos on the market today. Expectations are raised
SO HIGH by the marketing, yet the actual product is a let down.
Soccer
technical training is a long hard process that must be conducted
step by step and repeated month after month, and year after year.
The SoccerU series is designed to educate the “trainer” so you know
how to teach the skills.
2) Who should
NOT buy this series?
The SoccerU
series will greatly help 97% of the youth coaches, parents and
players out there today. Who are the 3%? If you are an advanced,
experienced soccer coach who has been coaching for many years, and
you have attended many coaching sessions, certifications and
training, and you have a “playing back ground” such as professional
or collegiate playing, then don’t buy this series.
Yes, you will
learn from it, but your learning experience will differ from others.
If you have “all that experience” you will learn less than the
average person. You should be out training players and not trying
to learn this knowledge again.
3) How are the
Blast The Ball and SoccerU series different?
Blast The Ball
is 100% devoted to understanding everything about the soccer kick
and ball flight. It is the most in-depth look ever taken at kicking
a soccer ball the right way, and explores every stage of development
from the beginner to the highly advanced. It is used by coaches,
parents and players from beginning level up to the highest levels of
competitive soccer. It has a 2 hour run time.
The SoccerU
series is different. It is like sending your player to a technical
skill camp for a week and sitting and watching the training. This
is how coaches and trainers learn. Watch others being trained and
you now know how to do the same.
SoccerU is NOT
a “light look” at skills training. You will sit through entire
training sessions in the field and watch players learning and
training. You will see 10 year olds learning as well as top level
college players. You will quickly learn that even upper level
collegiate players need refining and retraining of basic technical
skills from time to time.
4) This is not
an “Action Movie” and I am not “Tom Cruise”.
I warn people
in advance. The Blast The Ball series is a series that EVERYONE
enjoys watching. I have received hundreds of emails from people
saying they have watched it time and time again. Amazingly this
includes young players who often hate watching such a series.
The SoccerU
series is a more of a “college course” of technical skill training.
Many times there is no way to make this training exciting or “fun”
to learn. My goal in this series was not to “entertain” but rather
to teach. It is over 8 hours long and at times you will need to
take breaks. However, you will be a better technical trainer after
learning it. It is designed to make you a better teacher and expose
you to the real technical skills that are needed by developing
soccer players.
5) Don’t think
your “advancing” players don’t need basic training.
One of the
biggest mistakes I see in youth development is the failure to “go
back” and retrain players on key fundamental or core skills.
I can’t tell
you the number of advancing players I watch, all the way up to the
collegiate level, that need to return to the basics and “relearn”
and practice them.
To put it in
simple non-soccer terms, even the world’s top professional golfers
spend countless hours on the “practice range” refining their basic
skills.
You should
keep an open mind when watching this series and understand that many
of you will feel “overwhelmed” at the end. It is to be used over
several years teaching it step by step, little by little, and the
overall improvement will eventually come.
